Space Week
Here are a few activities from our space week adventures.
I realize I could have been more creative and used star
stickers, however we were out of them at the time. First we looked at some
pictures of constellations. Then we put
stars on the paper with Elmer's. After that I had the kids connect the stars
and name their constellations!
Moon texture painting
Flour
White Paint
Black Paper
Brushes
Directions
Just mix it until it is lumpy
This was a fun one. First we watched a YouTube video about
the geography of the moon. The video was totally made by a dude in his
basement, but it was very informative. Then we painted! Ty even named some of
the mountains on his moon-mostly "Duck face" and "Mountain of
danger"
Materials
String
String
drinking straw
paper rocket
tape (lots of it)
Balloon
This was a fun experiment that did not go as well as we
hopped. First you thread the straw on the string. Then string the string
between two points (a downward angle seemed to help).
Tape the rocket to the straw, blow up the balloon, tape that
to the rocket and let the air escape.
Mostly the rocket just turned around in circles which was
tons of fun, but we did get it to shoot to our space station a few times.
For this we made space helmets for mousey (the puppet) and
Ty. We then made a blanket fort and stocked it with food from the play kitchen,
a broken keyboard, and other materials that Ty decided he needed for
space-including 3 pairs of shoes. Then we turned on some space themed music and
the kids were entertained for about 2 hours. Gav mostly enjoyed going in and
out of the tent-then he discovered the stereo and played with that. Ty and
Mousey had several space walks and did important research on alien life-forms
circling the earth.
These were simple and fun. Kids drew pictures of aliens on
paper plates. We then stapled 2 plates together to make a ship form. Ty wanted
his filled with beans-which was kind of a disaster because when he started to
throw it around like a Frisbee, they went everywhere. The Dyson does not like
beans.
